Discover the stunning lagoons, open sea, and authentic flavors of Canto do Atins on a full-day adventure from Barreirinhas.
Join us on a full-day journey through one of the most stunning and authentic regions of the Lençóis Maranhenses. The Atins Circuit combines scenic lagoons, wide open beaches, a river meeting the sea, and unforgettable regional cuisine — all in a single tour.
We depart Barreirinhas at 8:30 AM in a comfortable Toyota 4x4. After about an hour driving through sandy trails surrounded by dunes and vegetation, we arrive at our first stop: the Gavião Lagoon. Its crystal-clear waters, surrounded by bright white dunes, invite you for a refreshing swim and relaxation in one of the most peaceful spots of the national park.
Next, we reach the open sea area, where the Atlantic Ocean borders the dunes, creating a rare and stunning contrast between the beach and desert-like landscape. It’s the perfect place to enjoy the ocean breeze and take in the endless horizon.
From there, we head to the cozy fishing village of Canto do Atins, where you’ll find some of the most iconic restaurants in the region: Sr. Antônio, Dona Luzia, and Carminha (located in Ponta do Mangue). Here you can savor local specialties like grilled shrimp, fresh fish, sun-dried beef, and regional sides — a culinary highlight served in a rustic, laid-back atmosphere under the shade of cashew and mango trees.
After lunch and a well-deserved rest in a hammock, we continue to the village of Atins, known for its barefoot charm, quiet streets of soft sand, and kite-surfing culture. One of the main highlights here is the mouth of the Preguiças River, where the river gently flows into the sea, forming a beautiful and peaceful natural junction — perfect for a relaxing walk or one last dip in the water.
On our way back, the adventure continues with more stops at breathtaking lagoons inside the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. We visit hidden gems like the Lagoa das Sete Mulheres, Lagoa Tropical, and Lagoa do Kaite, each one with unique colors, depths, and perfect water for swimming and exploring. Depending on the season and rainfall, additional lagoons may be included as well.
At around 4:00 PM, we begin the return trip to Barreirinhas, arriving by 5:30 PM, with the sun slowly setting and your heart full of unforgettable moments.
This is the perfect tour for travelers who want to go beyond the dunes — it’s about discovering the flavors, people, and natural magic of Atins and its surroundings.
