Take a steady pace on the snow-covered trails, feeling the crunch beneath your feet as you move through the forest. Winter animal tracks often dot the snow here, giving you clues to the local wildlife moving through the woods.

As you approach Dog Mountain, one of the best early-viewpoints, pause to enjoy an open panorama of the snow-covered North Shore, Vancouver, and Howe Sound below. On a clear day, you can even see all the way to Vancouver Island. This is a great spot for a hot drink or snack, and take a moment to snap some winter photos against the backdrop of frozen landscapes.

Continue up the trail, where winter conditions create a few unique challenges, such as icy patches, drifted snow, and uneven surfaces. With microspikes or snowshoes on, carefully traverse these sections, allowing time to adapt to the extra equipment.
