Discover the beauty of Duxiu Peak and the Royal City, a national 5A historical and cultural scenic area nestled in downtown Guilin. The only national archaeological site park in Guangxi, it perfectly integrates breathtaking karst scenery with 600 years of royal heritage.

At the heart of the scenic area stands the Jingjiang Royal City, constructed in the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty. Built 34 years earlier than the Forbidden City in Beijing, it is one of China’s best-preserved princely mansion ruins of the Ming Dynasty. Constructed against the mountain, the ancient city follows the rigorous central axis imperial layout, with Chengyun Gate, Chengyun Hall, and imperial residential ruins arranged in orderly sequence.

Rising abruptly from the ground, Duxiu Peak, hailed as “the Southern Heavenly Pillar”, stands solitary and magnificent, embodying the iconic spirit of Guilin’s landscapes. The 306 winding stone steps lead to the summit, passing the thousand-year-old Reading Cave where the Southern Dynasties scholar Yan Yanzhi once studied.

More than a hundred cliff inscriptions from successive dynasties remain on the mountain. Among them, the authentic inscription of “Guilin’s landscapes rank first under heaven” written by Wang Zhenggong of the Southern Song Dynasty shines brightly as an eternal ode to landscapes. Standing on the summit viewing platform, visitors can overlook the entire city of Guilin in a 360-degree panoramic view, embracing the winding Li River, scattered karst peaks, and the unique scenery where the city blends perfectly into the landscape.

Mountains nurture cultural heritage, and ancient courtyards breed scholarly elegance. Reconstructed as the Guangxi Imperial Examination Academy in the Qing Dynasty and ranked among China’s top five imperial examination halls, this place boasted prosperous literary style and cultivated numerous talents, including four top scholars and hundreds of successful candidates, making it a core sacred land of Lingnan imperial examination culture. The well-preserved examination rooms fully restore the ancient imperial examination scene. Intangible cultural heritage experiences such as royal secret rubbing and traditional cultural creations make the millennial cultural heritage tangible and vivid. Nestled at the foot of the peak, the crescent-shaped Yueya Lake features clear water reflecting the marvelous peak and pavilions set against ancient courtyards, presenting a poetic scenery at every step.
