Embark on a same-day tour of Jaal Mahal (also known as Jaisamand Lake & Palace) from Udaipur. Explore one of Rajasthan’s hidden gems, located about 50 km from Udaipur. Admire the stunning island palace situated in the middle of Jaisamand Lake, India’s second-largest artificial lake.
Begin your tour with a pick-up from your hotel/residence in Udaipur at around 8:00 AM. Meet your driver and guide, who will accompany you throughout the journey. The drive to Jaal Mahal takes approximately 1.5 hours, passing through scenic countryside landscapes, rural villages, and lush greenery.
On the way, make brief stops at the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, a beautiful forested area near Udaipur, and local villages to experience rural Rajasthan’s culture and traditions. Upon reaching Jaisamand Lake, be mesmerized by its vast expanse, spread over 36 sq. km. The lake was built in 1685 by Maharana Jai Singh to provide water to the Mewar region.
Admire the Jaal Mahal (The Island Palace) located in the middle of the lake, which was once a royal hunting lodge and summer retreat for the Mewar rulers. Enjoy a peaceful boat ride to get closer to Jaal Mahal (subject to availability). Spot animals like leopards, chinkaras, crocodiles, and migratory birds at the Jaisamand Wildlife Sanctuary.
Explore the pavilions and historic temples on the lake’s banks, and take in the scenic views of the lake, which has seven islands, some inhabited by the Bhil tribe. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant with authentic Rajasthani cuisine or carry a packed meal.
After exploring Jaal Mahal and Jaisamand Lake, head back to Udaipur by 4:00 PM. Drop-off at your hotel or any preferred location in the city by 6:00 PM.
