Jaipur, the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan, evokes the royal family who once ruled the region and who, in 1727, founded what is now called the Old City, or "Pink City" for the distinctive color of its buildings. At the center of its majestic street grid (notable in India) is the opulent colonnaded City Palace complex, which today houses several museum collections of textiles and art.
