Begin your adventure with a stress-free departure from Shinjuku Station aboard the Limited Express Azusa to Matsumoto. Visit the iconic Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan’s few remaining original castles, followed by a walk through Nakamachi Street, known for its Edo-style white-walled merchant houses. Enjoy free time for lunch, with a recommended local specialty: Sanzoku-yaki (mountain-style fried chicken).
In the afternoon, travel by scenic bus through the Northern Alps to Takayama, an atmospheric Edo-period town nestled in the mountains.
