Step into the elegance and mystique of Kyoto’s most famous district on this immersive Gion walking tour. We begin at Yasaka Shrine, one of Kyoto’s most treasured spiritual landmarks, where you’ll discover its deep ties to the city’s festivals and the refined traditions of geisha culture. From there, we wander into Maruyama Park, Kyoto’s oldest public garden. This peaceful oasis is the perfect place to slow down and soak in Kyoto’s natural grace.

We will stroll along Nene no Michi, a charming stone-paved lane named after the beloved wife of samurai leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Flanked by traditional townhouses, cozy teahouses, and artisan shops, it captures the timeless atmosphere of the Higashiyama district, which will lead us to Ninenzaka, a photogenic slope of historic wooden buildings and quaint storefronts that feels like stepping straight into the Kyoto of centuries past.

We then visit Yasui-Konpiragu Shrine, a hidden gem known for its symbolic “Power Stone” archway. Locals and visitors crawl through it to pray for strong bonds or to leave unwanted ties behind—a unique and memorable ritual steeped in tradition.

Our journey continues to Hanamikoji Street, the heart of Gion, where rows of preserved wooden teahouses still host the city’s geiko (Kyoto geisha). Your guide will share insights into the lives, training, and artistry of geiko and maiko, offering a rare glimpse into one of Japan’s most refined and private worlds.
