Amsterdam: Ultimate 7-Day Private guided Netherlands tour

Spending a week in the netherlands and not in the mood to organise a trip? Discover the Netherlands on a private road trip with a local guide. See everything you need to see in a week.
Day 1: Amsterdam

Start your journey in Amsterdam, where the Netherlands tells its most layered story. Explore the historic center, canals, and lesser-known neighborhoods while learning how trade, migration, tolerance, and rebellion shaped the city. Depending on your interests, this day can include city highlights and urban history, Jewish history and WWII context, or art, architecture, and social history.

Day 2: Zaanse Schans and Haarlem

Discover how the Netherlands became wealthy before the Industrial Revolution. Windmills, water management, and early mass production explain why this small country punched above its weight. Combine iconic scenery with real economic history, ending in a charming historic city.

Day 3: Giethoorn and Weerribben-Wieden National Park Or flower fields/keukenhof

Experience rural Netherlands: canals instead of roads, quiet landscapes, and small villages. This day offers contrast — and space to breathe — while explaining land reclamation and the Dutch relationship with water.

Day 4: The Hague, Kinderdijk, and Rotterdam

Begin your day in The Hague, the political heart of the Netherlands. Learn about the monarchy, parliament, diplomacy, international law, and Dutch political culture. Take a walk around the Binnenhof and the historic center.

In the afternoon, head to Kinderdijk to learn about water management. Discover why the Netherlands wouldn’t exist without these systems and how technology, landscape, and collaboration come together.

Day 5: Delft, Leiden, Gouda

This is a day of ideas, craft, and civic culture. In Delft, learn about royal history, Vermeer, science, and Delft Blue pottery. In Leiden, discover the first university, intellectual freedom, science, and revolution. In Gouda, explore cheese, trade, the market square, and religious history.

Day 6: Maastricht

Today shows that the Netherlands is not one culture. Discover Roman history, Catholic traditions, and a Burgundian lifestyle. Learn about the Treaty of Maastricht and Europe. Maastricht feels different — and that’s the point. A perfect mental reset after the Randstad.

Day 7: Alkmaar and Texel

On your last day, enjoy the air, space, and nature. In Alkmaar, discover trade, cheese, and North Holland identity. On Texel, explore dunes, sea, sheep, and silence. Learn about water, islands, and nature management. A gentle, fresh ending after an intensive week.
