This unforgettable mountain road is one of Norway's 18 National Scenic Routes and is normally open only from 1 June until mid-October. Climbing to around 1,300 metres above sea level, the route crosses a dramatic mountain plateau where snow often remains throughout much of the summer before descending towards the magnificent Aurlandsfjord.

The highlight is the world-famous Stegastein Viewpoint, suspended 650 metres above the fjord, offering one of Norway's most spectacular panoramic views.

Continuing into the Hardangerfjord region, you'll pass picturesque villages before stopping at Skjervsfossen and the famous Steinsdalsfossen, where you can walk safely behind the waterfall.
