Want to get your hands dirty and experience the magic of Portuguese tiles? Come discover traditional and contemporary tile painting techniques in a relaxed and creative environment! In this workshop, you will create your own hand-painted tile—no experience necessary.

In this workshop, you will: - Learn a little about the history of Portuguese tiles - Learn basic ceramic painting techniques - Create and paint your own tile, ready to be fired and taken home No experience necessary! Open to all levels—all you need is the desire to create.

Suggested Workshop Structure (Guide for the facilitator): 1. Welcome and introduction (15-20 min) - Brief introduction of the facilitator and participants - Short talk about tiles in Portuguese culture - Examples (traditional and modern pieces) 2. Technical demonstration (20-30 min) - Explanation of materials: brushes, pigments, tiles - Demonstration of basic techniques (painting on glaze, patterns, lines, and fills)

3. Individual creation (1h to 1h30) - Participants sketch and paint their own tiles - Individual guidance during the process 4. Closing (15 min) - Sharing of the pieces created - Explanation of the drying and firing process - Later delivery or shipping of the finished tiles (to be arranged with the students)

In this workshop, participants learn the traditional tile painting technique, as practiced for centuries in Portugal. This authentic technique involves firing the pieces in a high-temperature kiln, which requires a process of at least 24 hours until the tiles are ready. We always prioritize teaching the traditional technique, due to its artistic richness and cultural value. However, we understand that some participants have limited availability. Therefore, we also offer a faster painting technique, which allows the tile to be taken home on the same day (without firing). For those who opt for the traditional technique, the delivery of the pieces is arranged directly with the participant. If shipping is necessary, the shipping costs are the responsibility of the participant.

  • 1. **Introduction to the history and techniques of Portuguese tiles** (brief explanation of tradition, patterns, and materials) 2. **Demonstration of ceramic painting techniques** - Use of pigments suitable for tiles - Painting on glaze (majolica technique) - Basics of composition and color 3. **Materials provided:**
  • 2 tiles per participant (15x15 cm) - Ceramic pigments - Brushes and other tools - Tracing paper/pencil if using a pre-made design - Aprons (optional, but recommended) 4. **Personalized guidance throughout the process**
  • 5. **Final firing in a ceramic kiln (included in the price)** - Participants receive the finished tile (depending on firing and delivery/collection logistics) 6. **Creative and relaxed environment, ideal for all levels** - Can be accompanied by tea, coffee, or wine, depending on the venue.

  • This workshop focuses exclusively on tile painting and does not involve molding or sculpting.)* - Firing of extra pieces (if someone wants to paint more than 2 tiles) *(During the workshop, you can paint other pieces such as sardines or swallows.
