From Kigali: 4-Day Gorilla and Chimps Trekking Safari

Embark on a 4-day adventure from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Kyambura Forest. Trek through the forest to see mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, and learn about the Batwa Pygmy community.

Day 1: Kigali International Airport Pick-Up and Transfer to Your Hotel
Upon your arrival in Kigali, meet your guide for a briefing and take a transfer to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, proceed with a short Kigali city tour after checking in at your hotel. Spend the night at the Lebanon Hotel.

Day 2: Bwindi National Park and Pygmy Community Walk
After breakfast, cross the Rwanda-Uganda border via the Cyanika border and drive about 3 hours to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Arrive in Bwindi during lunchtime and then proceed with a visit to the Batwa Pygmy community.

A Pygmy guide will guide you through their journey from before and after they were evicted from the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and how they have survived. Spend the night at the Buhoma Community Rest Camp.

Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trek
After breakfast, take a drive of about 30 minutes to the National Park headquarters to meet your guides for the day. After completing the park formalities, embark on an once-in-a-lifetime experience of tracking mountain gorillas.

Learn how the park is home to over a third of the remaining 1,000 Mountain Gorillas in the world. Walk for approximately 2 to 4 hours through thick bush and over steep, rugged terrain at elevations ranging from 7,000 to 9,000 feet.

Once you spot the gorillas, spend up to an hour watching these incredible creatures from close by while taking pictures for your memory. Depending on the length of your trek, return back around 1:00 PM and have lunch.

Later, drive a little bit and stay nearby Kyambura Forest. Spend the night at the Engiri Game Lodge.

Day 4: Chimps Trek in Kyambura Forest and Transfer Back to Kigali
After breakfast, go for the Chimps trek in Kyambura Forest. Kyambura is a hidden gem within Queen Elizabeth National Park, offering a unique opportunity to encounter chimpanzees in their natural habitat.

This lush, forested gorge is home to a habituated group of chimpanzees, making it a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The trek typically lasts around 2-3 hours, and visitors can expect to spend approximately 1 hour observing the chimpanzees as they go about their daily activities, such as foraging, playing, or grooming.

Later, transfer back to Rwanda to fly back home.
