An ultimate day trip to Sigiriya rock fortress

Pick up from Kandy hotel and transfer to Matale – Approximately 1 hour drive.

Visit Sri Muthumariamman Temple, which is dedicated to Mariamman, who is believed to be the goddess of rain and fertility. In that name, the prefix ‘Muthu’ means pearl, ‘Mari’ means rain and ‘Amman’ means mother in Tamil. The main attraction of this temple is its large gopuram. The structure is 32 meters tall, so it can be seen from a long distance. The gopuram is decorated with many statues and sculptures. It looks so beautiful, and nobody misses it without capturing its photograph. The gopuram is also called Raja Koburam, and it is considered one of the largest gopurams in Sri Lanka

Then drive to Dambulla – Approximately 1 hour drive.
Visit Dambulla cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site where Lord Buddha's life is painted on the walls of the cave which is believed to be done during the 2nd century.

Then drive to Sigiriya – Approximately 30 minutes drive.
Visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress at 3.30 PM built by King Kashayapa as his palace during the 5th Century, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In 477 CE, Kashyapa, the king’s son by a non-royal consort, seized the throne from King Dhatusena, following a coup assisted by Migara, the King’s nephew and army commander. The rightful heir, Moggallana, fearing for his life, fled to South India. Afraid of an attack by Moggallana, Kashyapa moved the capital and his residence from the traditional capital of Anuradhapura to the more secure Sigiriya. During King Kashyapa’s reign (477 to 495 CE), Sigiriya was developed into a complex city and fortress. Most of the elaborate constructions on the rock summit and around it, including defensive structures, palaces, and gardens, date from this period.

Transfer back to Kandy – Approximately 2.5 hours drive. On the way some more sightseeing and shopping
