Arusha: 5-Day Big Time Mid-Range Safari

Embark on a 5-day safari from Arusha to Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, and Lake Manyara National Park. See the Big 5 and other wildlife on game drives and stay in comfortable accommodations.
Day 1: Arrival-Arusha
Arrive in Arusha and be picked up from the airport by a Big Time Adventures representative. Drive to your accommodation in Arusha and relax before your adventure begins.

Day 2: Arusha-Tarangire National Park
Your Big Time Adventures guide will collect you from your accommodation after breakfast. You will then drive to Tarangire National Park, where you’ll experience your first taste of the wilderness on your wildlife safari. The park is named after the Tarangire River, which runs through it. This river is the sole source of water for wildlife in the region during the dry season. Tarangire is also renowned for its large herds of elephants, which you may see meandering through the bush. After your game drive, you will be transferred to your accommodation in Karatu.

Day 3: Tarangire-Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti
After breakfast, you'll journey into the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA), which spans over 8,000 square kilometers. Around three million years ago, a massive volcano believed to have been larger than Kilimanjaro erupted and collapsed, forming what is now one of the largest intact calderas in the world. This unique geological formation has created a diverse ecosystem with abundant habitats and potable water, supporting one of the densest populations of large mammals in Africa especially endanger black Rhino. After your crater tour, you'll continue your journey through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, heading towards the Serengeti.

Day 4: Serengeti to Karatu
The Serengeti is truly spectacular. It’s vast and famous for the open grasslands which allow for excellent sightings of wildlife. The Serengeti’s climate and vegetation have remained largely untouched for millions of years. Whilst it boasts abundant wildlife, it is perhaps best known for the annual great migration. Vast numbers of wildebeest, accompanied by large numbers of zebra and antelope, move in an annual pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. In addition to the iconic landscapes, you have a good chance of encountering predators and you may see lion, cheetah and leopard. In the afternoon, start your journey back to Karatu, hopefully enjoying more wonder on the way.

Day 5: Lake Manyara to Arusha
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but diverse park 120 km west of Arusha. Everything you’ll see here is on a different scale. It is both compact and epic (the great rift escarpment towers over Lake Manyara’s western boundary). The park's namesake is a shallow, salt lake. It covers a large area of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons and is home to thousands of wading birds like flamingo and over 500 other bird species. You may see baboon and elephant in the park’s thick evergreen forest and watch for the tree-climbing lions that have become famous throughout Africa. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. After your game drive, say farewell to your guide and be dropped off at a place of your choosing.
