Kampala: 3-Day Lake Mburo, Lake Bunyonyi & Gorilla Trek

Day 1: Kampala – Uganda Equator – Lake Mburo National Park

Begin your adventure early in the morning as you depart Kampala for western Uganda. Stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe, a famous landmark where the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet. Capture the iconic “standing on both sides of the world” photo, enjoy a brief water experiment demonstration, and browse the local craft shops for souvenirs.

Continue the scenic drive through lush countryside and rolling hills to Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s smallest savannah park but rich in wildlife and beauty. After check-in and lunch at your lodge, embark on an afternoon game drive. Expect to see zebras, impalas, elands, warthogs, and various bird species. For a more intimate experience, you may opt for a guided walking safari within the park. As the sun sets, return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation, surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 2: Lake Mburo – Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, enjoy an early boat ride on Lake Mburo, offering chances to see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds. Depart mid-morning for Lake Bunyonyi, often called “the place of many little birds.” The drive passes through scenic highlands and terraced hills of southwestern Uganda. Arrive in the afternoon at this breathtaking lake, dotted with 29 islands.

After check-in, enjoy a canoe ride or boat tour across the serene waters, visiting some of the islands such as the historic Punishment Island. You can also swim (the lake is bilharzia-free), take a village walk, or relax with panoramic views of the surrounding hills. Spend the evening around a campfire as you enjoy the tranquil beauty of this highland paradise.

Day 3: Lake Bunyonyi – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Kampala

Rise early for the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to over half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. After a briefing at the park headquarters, set off on your gorilla trekking experience—a truly unforgettable adventure through thick rainforest terrain, guided by expert rangers. Once you locate the gorilla family, spend a magical hour observing their behavior, taking photos, and appreciating this rare wildlife encounter.

After trekking, enjoy lunch before beginning your return journey or continue to your next destination.
