This hike has 2 available options. The shorter hike focuses on the part that features the Giessbach Falls with lakeside exploration. The longer hike is described in the following itinerary.
Your adventure begins in Bönigen, taking you to the Eschwanden Waterfall to the idyllic fishing village of Iseltwald via a wide forest path. The well-maintained trail offers breathtaking views of Lake Brienz and the surrounding mountainous terrain.
Arrive in the beautiful village of Iseltwald and take a little break, have the option to go for a swim or have a snack in a restaurant just next to the lake. The second part of the hike follows the lakeshore, offering ample shade.
Reach the majestic Giessbach Falls, cascading down 400 meters in a series of 14 mesmerizing steps, creating a sight to behold. The trail takes you behind the waterfall and up a second gentle incline.
Afterward, visit the historic Grand Hotel Giessbach, enjoy snacks and drinks, and see Europe's oldest funicular. On your return, have the option to take the funicular down to the lake or embark on a short walk to the ferry station, where you board a scenic boat ride back to Bönigen.
For the shorter hike, you start with the second part by taking a bus to Iseltwald. From there, you follow a mostly flat trail to the Giessbach Falls. After spending time at the falls, you can return to Bönigen by boat.
