You'll spend a half-day at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine — one of Asia's most respected TCM institutions — guided by a local English-speaking host who has been connecting visitors with Chinese healing culture for years.

The experience begins in the TCM Museum, where you'll walk through centuries of medical history: ancient instruments, herbal specimens, handwritten case records, and the foundational texts that shaped Chinese medicine as it's still practiced today. It's not a tourist attraction — it's an actual university museum, and it shows.

From there, we step outside into the Baicao Garden, a medicinal herb garden on campus with over 400 plant species used in traditional treatments. Your guide will walk you through the most common ones — what they treat, how they're prepared, and which ones you've probably already encountered without knowing it.

The final part is the most personal. You'll sit with a licensed TCM practitioner for a consultation: pulse diagnosis on both wrists, a brief assessment of your body's current balance, and a recommendation of herbal formulas suited to your condition. Then you'll choose one hands-on treatment — cupping, acupuncture, moxibustion, or gua sha — performed by the same practitioner.

This is Traditional Chinese Medicine as it's actually practiced in China, not a tourism product built around it. Groups are kept small — a maximum of three people — so the doctor can give each person proper attention.
