Begin your adventure with a pickup from an agreed location on Senja and travel to Fjordgård, where the hike begins, or meet directly. Meet your local guide, get fitted with snowshoes and poles, and switch on your headlamp. Your guide explains how to use the equipment before you begin walking uphill through the winter landscape.
Along the way, pause at suitable spots and switch off your headlamps to let your eyes adjust to the darkness. Look for the first signs of the aurora or enjoy the moonlight illuminating the mountains and snow. These quiet moments are an important part of the experience.
Your destination is Hesten, with its spectacular views towards Segla. With clear skies and a little luck, you may watch the northern lights moving above this iconic mountain. Take time to enjoy the scenery and capture photographs while your guide shares local knowledge about Senja. Light snacks and hot drinks are provided during a break.
After your time on the mountain, put your headlamps back on and descend to Fjordgård before returning to the agreed drop-off location.
