Once check-in is complete, you will board the ferry for a scenic 30 minute crossing of Table Bay. Keep your camera ready for breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the Cape Town city skyline from the water.
Upon arrival at the island, the official museum tour commences. You will join a guided bus tour exploring the Lime Quarry and the island's graveyard before embarking on a moving walking tour through the maximum-security prison. Led by a former political prisoner, you will hear firsthand accounts of life on the island and the struggle for freedom. The tour culminates with a visit to Nelson Mandela’s former cell, offering a deep and personal reflection on his 18-year incarceration. .Book for your first day: We suggest booking for your first day in Cape Town. This gives us a "safety window" to reschedule if the ferry cancels due to wind. If we can't reschedule on your final day, you get a full refund.
.Tickets & Contact: Your host will message you 2 to 3 hours before boarding to send your digital tickets. He will also send his name and a photo of what he is wearing so you can find him easily.
.Arrival & Identification: Please meet your host 45 minutes before departure. He will be wearing an official name badge. All guests must bring an original physical ID or Passport to board
.The Tour: Your host assists you at the terminal and the ferry. Once on the island, the prison tour is led by the Robben Island Museum and former political prisoners.
Your host will meet you at the V&A Waterfront’s iconic Clock Tower Swing Bridge.
For easy recognition, your host will be standing directly in front of the bridge (shown in the tour photos). He will message you 1 hour before departure with his full names and a current photo, and he will also be wearing an official name badge.
He will assist you with your tickets and guide you to the Nelson Mandela Gateway terminal.
