Meiningen: Guided tour through the historic city center

Meiningen, the secret capital of Germany? At least that's what WDR investigated a few years ago, choosing Meiningen as the ideal location and awarding the small town in southern Thuringia the title "Q-City."
That's not entirely wrong. Until 1918, Meiningen was the capital and residence of the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. To this day, the buildings from that period characterize Meiningen's townscape, and many sights are closely linked to the duchy.
The theater is a major attraction, but Elisabethenburg Palace, the Goetz Cave, and the newly opened Steam Locomotive World, close to the traditional steam locomotive factory, also attract numerous visitors every year.
Our tour guides are specialized in showing you the most beautiful places in the city center and providing you with the most important facts and entertaining anecdotes about the city's history.
The tour starts at the Meiningen Tourist Information Office and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. It is offered every Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and every Monday at 2 p.m.
