Bhutan: 5-Day Private Tour with Gangtey Tshechu Festival

Day 1: Arrival in Paro and Thimphu

Meet your private guide at Paro International Airport and begin your journey through the Himalayan kingdom. Drive to Thimphu and enjoy a relaxed introduction to Bhutanese culture.

Visit the Buddha Dordenma Statue, Memorial Chorten, Tashichho Dzong exterior, and a local craft/handicraft market. In the evening, enjoy your first traditional Bhutanese dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2: Thimphu to Punakha to Gangtey/Phobjikha

After breakfast, drive towards the beautiful Phobjikha Valley. Stop at Dochula Pass, where 108 Druk Wangyel Chortens stand against the Himalayan backdrop. Continue towards Punakha.

Visit Punakha Dzong, the Pho Chhu–Mo Chhu river confluence, Bhutanese countryside and villages, and traditional farm landscapes. Continue uphill towards Gangtey/Phobjikha Valley, one of Bhutan's most beautiful high-altitude valleys. Check into your hotel and enjoy a warm Bhutanese dinner.

Day 3: Gangtey Tshechu and Gangtey Monastery

After breakfast, head to Gangtey Goenpa for the festival. Experience Bhutan's living Buddhist culture through sacred Cham mask dances, elaborate traditional costumes, monk rituals and prayers, traditional folk performances, local Bhutanese people dressed in Gho & Kira, and festival atmosphere and photography opportunities.

Gangtey Tshechu is a three-day religious festival featuring sacred mask dances and traditional community celebrations. Later, explore Gangtey Monastery and enjoy panoramic views over Phobjikha Valley.


Day 4: Phobjikha Valley Nature Walk and Paro

Enjoy breakfast overlooking the valley. Take a gentle guided walk through Phobjikha's countryside, with opportunities to see traditional farms, forests and the wide valley landscape.

During crane season, use the valley viewpoints to search for black-necked cranes. Sightings are wildlife-dependent and cannot be guaranteed. Afterward, drive back towards Paro through the spectacular Himalayan landscape.

Day 5: Paro Cultural Experience and Departure

After breakfast, enjoy a short Paro cultural tour. Visit Rinpung Dzong, Paro Old Town, local handicraft shops, and Kyichu Lhakhang, if flight timing permits. Transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight.
