Embark on a full-day journey to one of the most magical corners of Lençóis Maranhenses. The Atins Day Trip combines adventure through wild dunes, hidden freshwater lagoons, delicious regional food, and a visit to the meeting point between river and sea — all packed into an unforgettable experience.

The tour begins in Barreirinhas at 8:30 AM, when you board a powerful Toyota 4x4. After about one hour driving along winding sandy trails, we reach our first stop: the peaceful and scenic Lagoa do Gavião. Its cool, clear waters offer a welcome refreshment and the perfect setting for swimming, relaxing, and admiring the unique desert-like scenery of Lençóis Maranhenses.

Next, we travel to a stretch of open sea, where the dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean. Here, you can feel the salt air and gaze out over endless blue — a rare and beautiful landscape few places in the world can offer.

From there, we head to Canto do Atins, a small, welcoming village famous for its incredible food. Here you’ll find the legendary shrimp dishes served at the restaurants of Dona Luzia, Sr. Antônio, and Carminha in Ponta do Mangue. Whether you choose grilled shrimp, fried fish, or sun-dried beef, your lunch is sure to be one of the highlights of the day — all served under trees in the shade, in true local style.

After lunch, the journey continues to the remote village of Atins, a peaceful paradise with sandy streets, colorful boats, and laid-back charm. There, we visit the stunning mouth of the Preguiças River, where fresh and salt water merge in a tranquil dance of nature. It’s a place to pause, breathe, and truly take in the wonder of this meeting of worlds.

But there’s still more to explore. On the return trip, we make several stops at some of the most beautiful and lesser-known lagoons in the region, including the Lagoa das Sete Mulheres, the serene Lagoa Tropical, and the unique Lagoa do Kaite. Each lagoon has its own charm — some shallow and warm, others deep and cool, all surrounded by endless white dunes.

At 4:00 PM, we begin our drive back to Barreirinhas, arriving around 5:30 PM, with the golden light of the late afternoon painting the landscape one last time.
