Atins Tour with Village Stop and Lagoon Visits

Join us for a full-day expedition across one of Brazil’s most unique landscapes — the Lençóis Maranhenses, where freshwater lagoons, sweeping dunes, rustic villages, and the Atlantic coast all come together in a stunning display of nature and tradition.

The journey begins at 8:30 AM in Barreirinhas, where we depart in a 4x4 vehicle made to navigate the sandy trails that wind through the park. After about one hour of off-road adventure, our first destination is Lagoa do Gavião — a peaceful lagoon with clear, calm waters, surrounded by fine white sand dunes. It's a perfect introduction to the breathtaking serenity of the Lençóis.

We continue on to a stretch of open ocean, where the desert-like landscape gives way to salty waves and sea breeze. The contrast is surreal — from freshwater oases to the vast Atlantic — and gives a deeper sense of the region’s diversity.

Our midday stop is in Canto do Atins, a humble fishing community that’s gained a big reputation for its flavorful, local cuisine. Here you’ll find family-run restaurants like Sr. Antônio, Dona Luzia, and Carminha (in Ponta do Mangue), serving their famous grilled shrimp, regional fish, and sun-dried meat. Lunch is enjoyed outdoors, under the trees, with the warm hospitality only a local village can offer.

After lunch, we make our way to Atins village, a small, remote paradise where sandy streets and quiet charm define the rhythm of life. There, we visit the remarkable mouth of the Preguiças River, where the river gently flows into the ocean — a beautiful meeting of fresh and salt water that offers calm, shallow pools and expansive views of the horizon.

On our return, we’ll make stops at more lagoons inside the park — depending on the water levels of the season. These may include the beautiful Lagoa Tropical, the peaceful Lagoa do Kaite, and the enchanting Lagoa das Sete Mulheres. Each offers a chance to swim, relax, and experience the landscape in a completely personal way.

We begin our journey back from Atins at around 4:00 PM, returning to Barreirinhas by 5:30 PM, just in time for the golden colors of the afternoon to fade over the dunes.
