描述
Explore Hangzhou’s elegance and grit in one curated walk - visit a TCM museum, hike ancient hill trails past temples, reach a hidden viewpoint over West Lake, and explore a vibrant open-air market.
Begin your tour with an optional lunch at a revitalized wooden-style courtyard. Enjoy creative fusion dishes inspired by local Hangzhou ingredients, like yellow wine pudding and herb-infused mains. Get to know your guide and fellow travelers over great food.
Start your tour at the foot of Wu Shan Hill, where the Song Dynasty’s royal courts once overlooked lively local neighborhoods. Begin at Da Jing Xiang, a network of historic alleyways filled with ancient courtyard homes and restored workshop spaces. Walk past the heritage sites of traditional Chinese craftsmanship, including scissors, umbrellas, and herbal medicine companies.
Visit a Chinese Medicine Museum, housed in a 200-year-old mansion once considered to have the largest shop sign in China. Operated by a local medicine legacy brand, this museum offers insight into Traditional Chinese Medicine and classical Chinese garden aesthetics. Finish your visit with a free herbal tea in the majestic old apothecary hall.
Next, ascend Wu Shan, a gentle climb rich in legend and spiritual markers. Discover scattered Taoist and Buddhist temples, the fire-watching Cheng Huang Miao (City God Temple), zodiac-shaped rock formations, a hidden wall carving of Buddha that only reveals itself when wet, and a secret pavilion offering one of the most stunning panoramic views of both West Lake and the modern city skyline.
Descend the trail and arrive at Da Ma Long market, the last old-school alley market in Hangzhou that is a local favorite. See traditional wet market culture in action, vendors shouting prices, locals bargaining for fresh produce, street snacks sizzling, and Hangzhou-specific treats rarely found elsewhere.

2. This tour includes 90-120 minutes hike. While the hill is neither steep nor high, and the trails have been walked by locals for centuries—a moderate level of fitness is required. We recommend bringing mosquito repellent, especially in warmer months. The guide will also have an anti-mosquito kit available to share.
We'll meet in front of Gulou Church (鼓楼堂), a historic Catholic church located at No. 1 Zhonghe Middle Road, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, 310002, China. The church sits near Chaotianmen (朝天门), at the southern edge of Hangzhou’s old city wall.
To make things easy, I’ll message you on the day before the tour with a photo of myself and the exact meeting spot. I'll make sure I'll be easy to be spotted!
