描述
Discover the Melka Kunture Archaeological Site, Adadi Mariam Church, and Tiya Stelae Field on a day trip from Addis Ababa. Enjoy a lunch stop in Butajira and experience a regional town.
Begin your journey at the Melka Kunture Archaeological Site, where you can explore prehistoric excavation areas, stone tools, fossils, and an open-air museum near the Awash River.
Next, visit the Adadi Mariam Church, a rock-hewn church. Spend around 45–60 minutes here, especially if services or local religious activities are taking place.
Continue to the Tiya Stelae Field, a UNESCO-listed archaeological site known for its carved standing stones and ancient burial complex.
Stop for lunch or coffee in Butajira town and experience a regional town rather than treating the journey as only a monument tour. Adadi Mariam and Tiya are commonly combined with Butajira on this route.
If you have extra time, consider extending your trip to Wenchi Crater Lake for hiking, horseback riding, boat trips, hot springs, and the island monastery of Cherkos. Alternatively, visit Menagesha Suba Forest for forest walks, birdwatching, and mountain scenery.
