Get picked up from your accommodation in Banyuwangi and travel to the Ijen Volcano, located about 30 km from Banyuwangi city in the Licin area. The journey typically takes about 1 hour, but early morning traffic heading to Ijen may extend the trip to 1.5 hours.
Arrive at the Paltuding Post, the official entrance of Ijen. Here, meet your local trekking leader to get ready for the hike. Be sure to bring a warm jacket, gloves, flashlight or headlamp, and a gas mask (this is mandatory).
The hike to Ijen Crater is about 3.8 km and takes 1.5 to 2 hours. It's a relatively easy trek, but if you need guidance, local guides and sulfur miners are available along the way. The trail is well-marked and accessible.
At the summit, see the famous blue fire from afar. You can also continue trekking to catch the sunrise and enjoy a stunning view of the turquoise crater lake. If you're unsure of the path, your group leader will guide you to the right spot.
