Meet your local guide in Thamel and begin with a walk through the lively streets of Kathmandu. Along the way, your guide will introduce you to Nepal's drinking culture and explain the difference between modern local beer and traditional drinks.

Your first stop is for a Nepali local beer, where you can enjoy a cold beer and learn about the role of beer and informal gathering places in everyday Kathmandu life.

Then try Tongba, a traditional fermented millet drink associated with the eastern Himalayan communities of Nepal. Tongba is traditionally served in a wooden or metal container with hot water and sipped through a straw. Your guide will show you how it is prepared and explain the traditional way of drinking it.

The evening continues with a selection of Newari snacks, which may include dishes such as bara, choila, aloo tama, chatamari, fried soybeans, beaten rice (chiura), or other seasonal local snacks. The exact selection may vary depending on availability.
