Spakenburg: Sunset boat trip on an authentic fishing boat

Sail on an authentic fishing boat to the former Zuiderzee. Enjoy nature and a fabulous sunset on a clear evening. We are also happy to tell you the story of Bunschoten-Spakenburg.
The boat trip starts in the museum harbour of the former fishing village of Spakenburg. We sail past the shipyard from 1750 and the dozens of authentic wooden fishing boats(botters) out of the old harbour. We pass the dike houses, the fish auction and the Nieuwe Haven (1886). When we leave the harbour we pass the wreck cemetery, here lie several dozen wrecks on the bottom of the lake. We sail the Randmeren, the former Zuiderzee. After the construction of the Afsluitdijk in 1932, the Zuiderzee changed into the IJsselmeer. The Afsluitdijk ensured that the water changed from salt to fresh at a rapid pace. On the lake we have a view of four provinces: Utrecht, Gelderland, Noord-Holland and Flevoland. Flevoland is completely reclaimed and is the largest artificial island in the world. We enjoy the water and nature. The IJsselmeer area is home to many species of birds, such as Cormorants, Grebes, Swans, Geese, etc. If there is enough wind, we will hoist the sail and enjoy the silence. On a clear evening, we will experience a fabulous sunset on the lake. The skipper and his mate will be happy to tell you about the authentic fishing boat from 1943 and the fishing past during the boat trip. The final part of the trip is the inland navigation of the port of Spakenburg, a journey back to the 19th century. Afterwards, enjoy one of the terraces in the cozy historical center.
