DAY 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
After an early breakfast, meet your professional guide and depart Kampala for a scenic drive to southwestern Uganda with views of the Virunga volcanoes gradually rising in the distance. You will have lunch en route before continuing to Kisoro town, arriving in the afternoon, check into your hotel Ichumbi Hotel near Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

DAY 2: Golden Monkey Trekking
Your day begins early with breakfast at the lodge before departing for the park headquarters at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Upon arrival you will complete registration and join other trekkers for a briefing conducted by rangers from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. During this session, the rangers explain important trekking guidelines such as maintaining a respectful distance from the monkeys, keeping voices low, avoiding flash photography, and following instructions while in the forest. They will also describe the trekking terrain, expected duration, and how trackers locate the monkeys each morning.

After the briefing, you will drive or walk a short distance to the trailhead where the trek begins. The hike takes you through beautiful bamboo forests and montane vegetation at the base of the Virunga volcanoes. The terrain is generally moderate, though some sections may be slightly steep or muddy depending on the weather. Along the way, rangers will point out different plants, bird species, and signs of wildlife while explaining how the ecosystem supports the golden monkeys.

Golden monkeys are usually located by advance trackers who leave early in the morning to find where the troop spent the night. Once your group approaches the area, the guides will lead you carefully through the bamboo forest until the monkeys are spotted. The experience is lively and engaging because the monkeys are very active. You may see them jumping quickly between bamboo stems, feeding on young bamboo shoots, grooming each other, or playing in large groups. Their bright golden-orange fur makes them easy to notice against the green bamboo vegetation.

Visitors are allowed to spend time observing and photographing the monkeys while the rangers interpret their behavior and explain the conservation efforts that protect them. Because golden monkeys are relatively tolerant of human presence, they often move around close to visitors, creating excellent opportunities for wildlife photography and unique primate viewing.

After completing the trek, you will return to the park headquarters where your driver guide will be waiting. From there, you begin the scenic return journey to Kampala. You will stop along the way for lunch and short breaks as you travel through the rolling hills and countryside of southwestern Uganda. Arrival in Kampala or Entebbe is expected in the evening, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or preferred location, marking the end of your memorable golden monkey trekking experience.
