Trek through Colca Canyon for 3 days, visit Andean villages, stay in rustic bungalows, enjoy local meals, relax in Sangalle’s pools, and return to Arequipa via thermal baths.
Day 1: Arequipa – Cruz del Cóndor – San Juan de Chuccho
Start early with pickup from your hotel near central Arequipa or meet at the designated meeting point near the Plaza de Armas. Travel for around 3 hours to Chivay, where you’ll enjoy breakfast before continuing through the Colca Valley.
Stop at the Antahuilque viewpoint to admire ancient pre-Inca terraces, then continue to the Cruz del Cóndor. Watch for the majestic Andean condors soaring above the canyon and take in the impressive depth of the Colca Canyon.
From Pampa San Miguel, begin a hike of approximately 4 hours into the canyon toward San Juan de Chuccho. Along the way, enjoy the changing landscapes and experience the quieter side of the Colca Canyon. Once you arrive, have lunch with a local family before enjoying free time to rest and appreciate the natural surroundings. After dinner, spend the night in a rustic bungalow in a shared room.
Day 2: San Juan de Chuccho – Cosñirhua – Malata – Sangalle
After breakfast, continue your trek deeper into the canyon. Walk through the traditional Andean communities of Cosñirhua and Malata, where you can observe local life and the rural landscapes of the Colca Valley.
Continue along the trail toward Sangalle, an oasis located deep inside the canyon. After approximately 3 hours of hiking, arrive at Sangalle and enjoy time to relax beside its natural pools, with water temperatures of around 20 °C.
After lunch, have free time to rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. In the evening, share a family-style dinner and spend your second night in a rustic bungalow or small cabin in a shared room.
Day 3: Sangalle – Cabanaconde – Chivay – Arequipa
With your guide’s agreement, wake up around 4:30 AM and begin the challenging ascent from Sangalle to Cabanaconde. The hike takes approximately 3 hours and offers views of the canyon as you climb.
After reaching Cabanaconde, enjoy breakfast before continuing by vehicle toward Maca. Stop at the thermal baths and relax in the warm waters before traveling to Chivay.
After a break in Chivay, begin the journey back to Arequipa. Along the way, stop at the Andes Viewpoint at 4,910 meters above sea level and at the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. Arrive in Arequipa at approximately 5:30 PM, where you’ll be dropped off about two blocks from the Plaza de Armas.
