This journey through the empire of the Incas takes you across the country, through breathtaking landscapes and to archaeological sites. Discover the ruins of the long-gone Paracas, Nazca and Inca cultures on the coast and in the Andean highlands and be enchanted by the magic of Machu Picchu, the ancient Inca fortress and one of the new wonders of the world.

From the coastal desert of the Pacific and the capital Lima, you will travel over 4,000 m high passes across the Andes mountains to Lake Titicaca at 3,810 m with its floating reed islands, on to the old Inca capital of Cusco and the famous Inca fortress of Machu Picchu, to the enigmatic scarified images of Nazca, into the hot and humid Amazon lowlands and up to the Altiplano with its snow-capped volcanic peaks.

Enjoy the unforgettable ride on the narrow-gauge railroad to Machu Picchu, travel from north to south on the legendary Panamericana highway and over the Andes on the Interoceánica. Spend the night in a jungle lodge, visit colorful indigenous markets, swim in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Peru or in an Amazon lagoon, immerse yourself in a foreign culture and, last but not least, be inspired by Peru's culinary delights!

On a boat ride to the Ballestas Islands in the Pacific, you can observe countless species of birds, penguins and sea lions, and on a boat tour on the rivers of the Amazon you will encounter caimans, otters, turtles, river dolphins, anacondas and pirañas.

You will marvel at the flight of the majestic condors in the Colca Valley near Arequipa, see screeching parrots, hoatzins, howler monkeys and sluggish sloths, fall in love with the graceful vicuñas of the Andean highlands and, with a bit of luck, even spot dolphins and whales in the fish-rich Pacific off the Peruvian coast.

A very special highlight of this trip is Peru's excellent cuisine. The country is home to 84 of the world's 100 micro-climates, which produces an unimaginable variety of vegetables and fruits: more than 3,000 varieties of potato and maize, 600 types of fruit, 2,000 types of fish, mixed with the recipes of European, African, Chinese and Japanese immigrants. Add to this the regional cuisines of the Peruvian natives - and the result is some very tasty culinary delights. Peruvian cuisine is rightly regarded as one of the best in the world - you will be amazed!
