Itinerary with complete details: One-day expedition from Cusco to Machu Picchu, passing through Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes
Early Morning Start: Embark on your adventure with an early morning pickup between 4:00 and 4:15 AM from Cusco. A cozy vehicle will transport you through the enchanting Andean views, traveling for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to the Ollantaytambo train station.
Train to Aguas Calientes: Upon arrival, our driver will help you board the train, which will depart at 6:10 a.m. m. or at 6:40 a.m. m. towards the charming town of Aguas Calientes. This 1.5-hour train ride features stunning scenery of the Urubamba River and the rugged terrain surrounding it.
Reception in Aguas Calientes: Upon arriving at Aguas Calientes, the entrance to Machu Picchu, our guide will be waiting for you with a sign that says “MACHU PICCHU RESERVATIONS” or their specific names. After an introductory meeting and receiving key instructions, enjoy 20 to 30 minutes of personal time to enjoy a coffee, choose some snacks, or use the bathroom.
Ascent to Machu Picchu by Bus: Subsequently, line up to take the bus that undertakes a 30-minute winding ascent to the main entrance of Machu Picchu, estimated arrival between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
Guided exploration of Machu Picchu: The trip includes a ticket to Machu Picchu, which generally grants access via circuit 02 or 01, subject to availability. In case of unavailability, circuits 04 or 03 serve as substitutes. It is recommended to book in advance to secure your preferred route. Upon arrival, our guide will lead an informative 2.5-hour tour of the Inca citadel, highlighting key monuments, sharing stories, and giving you moments to absorb the views and capture memories.
Return to Aguas Calientes: After visiting the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, you will descend by bus to Aguas Calientes, which takes approximately 25 minutes. There you can explore the town of Aguas Calientes.
Free Time in Aguas Calientes: After the tour, return to Aguas Calientes by bus, where you will have free time to enjoy a meal and stroll around the city before heading to the train station.
Return trip to Cusco: The return train leaves Aguas Calientes around 2:30 or 3:20 p.m. and will take you back to Ollantaytambo station in 1.5 hours. Here, our transportation will be ready to guide you back to Cusco by car.
