Waqrapukara Tour: 2 Days from Cusco

Follow in the footsteps of the Quincha civilisation on this overnight tour to Waqrapukara and camp under the stars at the ancient archaeological site!
Day 1: Cusco – Waqrapukara
After picking you up from your hotel in Cusco, we'll travel south to the beautiful landscapes of the Pomacanchi Lagoon. Here, we'll make a brief stop by the lakeshore to take photos of the spectacular natural environment.

We'll then continue our tour to Sangarará, a small Andean village known for its church dedicated to the Virgin of the Snows. After hearing the legend related to this temple, we'll fuel up for the day's activities with a hearty breakfast.

Our next stop will be Pitumarca, where we'll embark on a hiking route which will lead us to the archaeological site of Waqrapukara. We'll have dinner and spend the night at a campsite near the historic ruins.

Day 2: Waqrapukara – Cusco
After breakfast at the campsite, we'll enjoy a guided tour of Waqrapukara archaeological site. Under the ancient Intipunku or "Sun Gate", we'll discover fascinating facts about the pre-Columbian civilisations that built and later fought for control of this strategic fortress.

During the tour of the ruins, we'll also get to admire the well-preserved cave paintings and learn to interpret their meanings. Having explored Waqrapukara, we'll return to the campsite for lunch, before hiking back to Sangarará. There, we'll take the bus back to Cusco after two unforgettable days.
