In this workshop, you will: - Learn a little about the history of Portuguese tiles - Learn basic ceramic painting techniques - Create and paint your own tile, ready to be fired and taken home No experience necessary! Open to all levels—all you need is the desire to create.
Suggested Workshop Structure (Guide for the facilitator): 1. Welcome and introduction (15-20 min) - Brief introduction of the facilitator and participants - Short talk about tiles in Portuguese culture - Examples (traditional and modern pieces) 2. Technical demonstration (20-30 min) - Explanation of materials: brushes, pigments, tiles - Demonstration of basic techniques (painting on glaze, patterns, lines, and fills)
3. Individual creation (1h to 1h30) - Participants sketch and paint their own tiles - Individual guidance during the process 4. Closing (15 min) - Sharing of the pieces created - Explanation of the drying and firing process - Later delivery or shipping of the finished tiles (to be arranged with the students)

In this workshop, participants learn the traditional tile painting technique, as practiced for centuries in Portugal. This authentic technique involves firing the pieces in a high-temperature kiln, which requires a process of at least 24 hours until the tiles are ready. We always prioritize teaching the traditional technique, due to its artistic richness and cultural value. However, we understand that some participants have limited availability. Therefore, we also offer a faster painting technique, which allows the tile to be taken home on the same day (without firing). For those who opt for the traditional technique, the delivery of the pieces is arranged directly with the participant. If shipping is necessary, the shipping costs are the responsibility of the participant.
