A tour of Lisbon's fascinating queer history, and we pass by all the main gay scene venues. Plus, you get a free copy of the 134-page ‘Alex’s LONG LIST' updated guide to LGBTQ Lisbon (readable on mobiles).
You'll hear stories and anecdotes from centuries of scandalous, fascinating, triumphant (sometimes bizarre!) queer history - and we explore today's gay scene venues at the same time.
Hear fun history anecdotes that bring queer Lisbon alive - and find the corners of Lisbon's queer scene venues that suit you best.
Come solo or with friends - meet new people and have fun getting to know Lisbon. The characters and stories from queer history are often fun scandals and you'll get to hear the stories in the places where history happened. And we pass by the main scene venues; and you get 'The LONG LIST' guide to queer Lisbon (134 pages - viewable on mobiles and downloadable as a PDF).
History highlights include: how the Inquisition dealt with gay men, how lesbians battled 1960s censorship, 17thCentury cruising sites, stories from 19thCentury sex-work, lesbian nuns, why ‘Fado’ is queer, how Pride is different in Portugal, gay men dodging the 1950s police, how bisexual jazz-legend Josephine Baker was a spy in WWII, a Trans love story, the ‘Two Fernandes’, how LGBT rights were established in Portugal, how the first drag shows started, gay writers, queer pop stars, straight censors, disgraced politicians - all this and more as we get to know the modern gay scene.
