Tucked away in the emerald embrace of the Laurissilva forest, Ribeira Funda is a hidden sanctuary with a haunting beauty. Once home to over a hundred residents and a local school, the village now counts only a handful of permanent inhabitants. You will see the ruins of a past life, including the home of Nicolau Góis, who rediscovered this "paradise on earth" 22 years ago and began restoring its soul.
Today, the silence of this valley is broken only by the sound of flowing water and the pulse of adrenaline. As you approach the canyon, you’ll understand why it’s called "Funda" (Deep)—the vertical walls are so immense that the gaze easily gets lost in the depths.
This is a technical masterclass designed for seasoned canyoners. Under the guidance of elite professionals, you will navigate 10 complex waterfall stages. The highlight is the legendary 60-meter rappel, a true test of skill and nerves that rewards you with a panoramic view where the blue Atlantic meets the towering green mountains.

Coming from the South via the Encumeada Tunnel toward São Vicente? Just 5 minutes after exiting the tunnel, you’ll find a small free parking area with local shops. Our guides will be waiting for you right inside the bakery.
