A two-day trip to Volcanoes National Park (VNP) offers an intense and rewarding immersion into Rwanda's conservation heartland, combining an once-in-a-lifetime mountain gorilla encounter with a big tribute to pioneering primatologist Dian Fossey. This compact adventure allows you to witness incredible wildlife and learn about crucial conservation efforts while minimizing travel time, as the park is a scenic 2-3 hour drive from Kigali.

Transfer to Musanze & Cultural Immersion
Wake up in the morning and have your breakfast as you get prepared for the 2-3 hour drive to musanze “the gateway town to volcanoes National Park” you will travel through beautiful Rwandan countryside with views of the rolling hills and volcanic mountains. As you arrive, relax and Enjoy lunch at a restaurant or your accommodation lodge in Musanze.










Afternoon: Visit Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund
Visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. This is a world-class research and education center with state-of-the-art exhibits about Dian Fossey's life, her conservation work, and the mountain gorillas.
Late Afternoon: Visit Iby'iwacu Cultural Village
Head to the nearby Iby'iwacu Cultural Village (also known as the Gorilla Guardians Village), located in Kinigi, Musanze district.
Here you are going to experience traditional Rwandan culture through guided tours that include dance performances, a replica king's palace visit, learning about local crafts, and trying local food and banana beer. The visit usually takes a couple of hours and contributes to community empowerment.





Evening:
Check into your lodge in Musanze for dinner and an overnight stay, getting an early rest for the next day's trek.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Return to Kigali
Wake up early morning, have your breakfast and go for Trekking briefing, You will receive a mandatory briefing on the rules and regulations for gorilla trekking and be assigned a gorilla family group and guide.
After the briefing, you will be driven to the trailhead to begin your trek into the forest. The duration and difficulty of the hike can vary from 30 minutes to over 4 hours depending on where the gorillas are located. Late afternoon Return to the park headquarters, and move for late lunch as you get ready for the 3 hour drive back to Kigali.
