Tbilisi: Kakheti Wine, Bread, & Sighnaghi Day Trip

Discover the history and flavors of Georgia on a day trip from Tbilisi. Visit the Chronicles of Georgia, taste Manavi Mtsvane wine, and explore the City of Love, Sighnaghi.
Begin your tour on the outskirts of Tbilisi at the "Georgian Stonehenge," a grandiose memorial of 16 copper columns, each 35 meters high. Admire the bas-reliefs that depict the entire history of Georgia, from kings and saints to everyday scenes. Take in stunning views of the Tbilisi Sea and the city from the hill.

Next, head towards Kakheti and stop in Manavi, the birthplace of one of the finest white wines. Try Manavi Mtsvane wine, which is fresh with notes of citrus and apple. Sample the famous "white" churchkhela, made from Mtsvane grape juice and considered the most delicate in the region.

Continue to Badiauri, the most delicious village on the route. Visit bakeries where they bake hot Kakhetian shoti in tone ovens. Buy piping hot bread straight from the oven and fresh homemade suluguni cheese. Savor the combination of hot bread and melting cheese, the taste of true Georgia.

Next, visit the Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino, a place of incredible tranquility and beauty. See the relics of St. Nino, the enlightener of Georgia, and visit the ancient basilica. Stroll through the monastery's immaculate gardens and take in views of the Alazani Valley from the observation deck. If you wish, descend to the healing spring (approximately 600 steps).

Finally, arrive in Sighnaghi, a cozy hill town reminiscent of Italy. Walk along a section of the 18th-century fortress wall, one of the longest in the world, and climb the watchtowers. Stroll along cobbled streets with red-tiled roofs. The town is called the "City of Love" because the local registry office is open 24 hours a day. Conclude your tour with lunch at a restaurant with a view of the Alazani Valley and the Greater Caucasus Mountains.
