Day 0: Arrival in Moshi
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi for a welcome briefing by your expert guides who will prepare you for the climb.
Day 1: Moshi to Mandara Hut
Begin your adventure with a transfer from Moshi to the Marangu Gate, where you’ll complete registration before starting the trek. The hike takes you through lush montane forests filled with birdlife, primates, and unique plants. You’ll arrive at Mandara Hut in the afternoon, where you can explore the surroundings, including a short walk to the Maundi Crater.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
The trail today leads you out of the forest and into the heathland, where you’ll enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. You’ll see diverse vegetation, including giant lobelias and groundsels unique to Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon.
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Today’s trek is a gradual ascent through the alpine desert terrain, crossing the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This landscape is vast and stark, giving you a sense of the mountain’s scale. Reach Kibo Hut in the afternoon and rest early in preparation for your summit attempt.
Day 4: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Horombo Hut
Your summit push begins around midnight, ascending the steepest and most challenging part of the route to Gilman’s Point. After a short rest, continue on a gradual climb along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your accomplishment with sunrise views from the Roof of Africa, then descend back to Horombo Hut for rest.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – Return to Moshi
Descend from Horombo Hut, passing through the montane forest back to Marangu Gate, where you’ll collect your certificate of achievement. Meet with your transport for a drive back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest.
