Join a small group tour of Stonehenge taking in the sites of the rural Thames and Windsor Great Park. Take the side road up to Stonehenge taking in the views of this fascinating ancient landscape.
Departing from London's Heathrow airport we will soon be driving through the ancient meadow of Runnymede by the rural Thames. Runnymede will be of particular interest to those from the English speaking world since this is where the terms of Magna Carta was agreed to over 800 years ago, paving the way to the rule of law and a constitutional monarchy.
Our tour continues by the river Thames and past Home Park, the private grounds of the Royal family and residence to the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Look for a brief but spectacular view of Windsor Castle before we head off through Windsor Great Park, home to an ancient oak forest. Our tour continues past Ascot, the horse racing stadium and on through the King's private estates where we will hear of a faithful little dog who received a state pension.
We then join the motorway that takes us down to Stonehenge. Unlike the big tour groups, we will take the scenic backroad to Stonehenge seeing some ancient burial mounds on the way as well as a flint built village and a 12th century church. We take in the anicent sites of Durrington Walls and Woodhenge. Arriving at Stonehenge your driver will escort you up to the Stones and then you will be free to explore the site at your own leisure with your very own audio guide curated by us specifically for this tour.
Returning to the visitor centrem there will be time to browse through the shop and get something to eat or drink.
Dont forget the visitor centre where you stand in the middle of a 360⁰ cinema and see how Stonehenge developed over the centuries through the passage of the seasons.
Short aninamtions show how the stones were quarried, dressed and erected and on display are artefacts discoverd througout the world heritage site.
Outside the visitor centre there is facsimile of one of the Stones where you can test your strength. Nearby are reconstructions of huts used during the building of Stonehenge so you can see how people lived all those years ago.
Out journey back takes us back through the Surrey Heath, said to be the preseved low heath in the world, a haven for wildlife.
