Whales in Peninsula Valdés: Coastal and Boat Whale Watching

Begin your adventure with hotel pickup in Puerto Madryn and travel to Península Valdés, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Patagonia’s most important wildlife reserves.

Your first stop will be El Desempeño, the entrance point to the reserve, where you will pay the admission fee. Continue to the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus and visit the Interpretation Center, where you will learn about the local ecosystem and see the impressive whale skeleton. From the viewpoint, enjoy panoramic views of both gulfs, the peninsula’s unique geography, and Isla de los Pájaros.

Continue to Puerto Pirámides, the only village inside Península Valdés. Here, you will have free time and the option to join a whale watching boat tour (available from June to December, weather and navigation conditions permitting). Choose between a traditional boat trip or the Yellow Submarine experience for an underwater view of the whales (paid separately). After Puerto Pirámides, visit Punta Pirámides, a beautiful sea lion colony offering spectacular coastal views.

The final stop is El Doradillo Beach and Las Canteras, where during whale season (July to mid-October) you may have the chance to observe Southern Right Whales and their calves from the shore. Your guide will consider tides and weather conditions to provide the best possible wildlife viewing experience.
