Rovaniemi: Ice Fishing, Snowmobile, and Net Fishing Tour

Experience a Lapland wilderness adventure at remote Niesijärvi. Try ice fishing, see a net-fishing demonstration, enjoy sledding, and relax in a heated lakeside Lappish teepee.
Begin with a convenient pickup from your accommodation within 10 km of Rovaniemi city center. After a 45-minute minibus ride and a 15-minute sleigh transfer behind a snowmobile, arrive at the remote, crystal-clear wilderness lake of Niesikivalo, far from any signs of civilization.

At the lake, a unique Arctic experience awaits you: a traditional Lappish kota (tepee) has been built directly on the frozen lake surface. Heated and cozy inside, the kota allows you to enjoy ice fishing in comfort even during cold or windy weather. Warm up between sessions, continue fishing through a protected hole inside the shelter, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the fire.

Your guide will also prepare a small campfire inside the kota, where you can grill Finnish sausages and relax while surrounded by snowy wilderness.

Outside the kota, learn the basics of traditional ice fishing, try your luck with the local fish species, and watch an authentic winter net-fishing demonstration—a method still used by local fishermen today.

For a bit of winter fun, enjoy sledding on snowy slopes, suitable for both adults and children. If time allows, visit a nearby scenic viewpoint offering excellent photo opportunities of the frozen lake and surrounding Arctic forest.

After approximately two hours at the lake, return to Rovaniemi by sleigh and minibus.
