The structure of Borobudur consists of nine stacked platforms, with six square-shaped platforms at the base and three circular platforms at the top, culminating in a large central dome. Pilgrims would ascend the temple, starting from the base and moving upward through the platforms, contemplating the teachings depicted in the reliefs.

The temple is adorned with over 2,600 relief panels and 504 statues of the Buddha, each representing different aspects of Buddhist philosophy and teachings. The upper levels of Borobudur feature stupas (dome-shaped structures) that enclose statues of the Buddha, symbolizing the final stage of enlightenment.

Borobudur was abandoned for centuries, likely due to volcanic eruptions and shifts in religious practices, and was rediscovered in the 19th century. Today, it stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is an iconic symbol of Indonesia's cultural and religious history, attracting millions of visitors from around the world.
