Sapporo: Soranuma-Dake Overnight Trek in Shikotsu-Toya NP

Embark on an overnight trek to Soranuma-dake in Shikotsu-Toya National Park. Stay in a lakeside hut, hike through lush forests, and enjoy panoramic views of Eniwa-dake and Shikotsuko from the summit.
We start with meeting at Makomanai subway station which is a short 20 minute commute from central Sapporo. We then head to the trailhead by private van which is around 15 minutes away.
Once at the trailhead we have a short safety brief, then begin your adventure at the trailhead located at the end of a large quarry, just south of Sapporo City. Follow a well-defined trail through lush forests to the picturesque Soranuma-dake.

Find solace in the two huts by the small lake, with the larger Bankei Sanso hut offering shelter throughout the year. Stay overnight to enjoy this amazing lakeside location.

On the following morning, set off to climb the trail up past the larger Soranuma alpine lake and eventually reach the ridgeline that connects Soranuma-dake and Sapporo-dake.

Be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and lakes, making the strenuous climb worthwhile. After spending a rewarding break, descend back on the same trail, or if time permits, hike back towards Sapporo-dake to view different perspectives of the ranges.

When you decide to return, head back down past the lakes and hut before continuing back to the trailhead. At the end of the hike, visit one of the many onsen (hot springs) in the area before completing the day back at Makomanai station and bidding your farewells.
