Nairobi: 6-Day Mount Kenya Climb via Chogoria Route

Embark on a 6-day trek to Mount Kenya's Point Lenana via the Chogoria Route. Enjoy stunning landscapes, lakes, and waterfalls, and descend via the Sirimon Route.
Day 1: Nairobi – Chogoria – Anabas Lodge (2,950 m)

Depart from Nairobi and drive approximately 4 hours to Chogoria town. After lunch, transfer by 4WD vehicle through the forest (about 30 km) to reach Anabas Lodge at Chogoria Gate. Enjoy a short acclimatization walk in the afternoon. Spend the night camping at Anabas Lodge.

Day 2: Chogoria Gate – Lake Ellis – Roadhead Camp

After breakfast, begin your trek toward Roadhead Camp. The trail passes the beautiful Lake Ellis, surrounded by spectacular alpine scenery. The hike takes approximately 3–4 hours. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Nithi Waterfalls. Spend the night at Roadhead Camp.

Day 3: Roadhead – Michaelson Camp (4,000 m)

Today’s hike takes about 5 hours to reach Michaelson Camp. Enjoy a picnic lunch along the trail as you trek through stunning high-altitude landscapes. The camp sits near a lake where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Fishing is possible for interested hikers. Spend the night at Michaelson Camp.

Day 4: Michaelson – Simba Col Camp (4,600 m)

Continue trekking for 3–4 hours to Simba Col Camp. The rest of the day is spent resting and acclimatizing while preparing for the summit attempt the following morning. Spend the night at Simba Col Camp.

Day 5: Summit Point Lenana – Shipton’s – Old Moses Camp

Wake up early at 4:00 AM for the summit hike to Point Lenana (4,985 m). Reach the summit around sunrise and enjoy spectacular views across Kenya. On clear mornings you may even see Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds far to the south. After the summit, descend to Shipton’s Camp for breakfast, then continue trekking to Old Moses Camp for overnight.

Day 6: Sirimon Gate – Nairobi

After breakfast, descend for approximately 3 hours to Sirimon Gate where your driver will meet you. Transfer back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon.
