الوصف

Discover 7 Labuan Bajo stops: Batu Cermin Cave, wear Manggarai dress in Melo, swim in Rangko Cave, enjoy lunch at Taman Laut, sunset at Sylvia Hill, seafood at Kampung Ujung Night Market & souvenirs.
Most day tours in Labuan Bajo show you four viewpoints. This one explains what you are looking at. Over seven stops you move from a cave that was once seabed, up to a Manggarai village in the highlands, and back down to the harbour market where the town has always eaten.

9:00 AM — Pickup from your hotel in Labuan Bajo.

Batu Cermin Cave. The "mirror cave" is named for the way sunlight enters through fissures and reflects off the limestone. The more interesting story is in the walls: coral and marine fossils sit in the rock, because this hill was under the sea long before it was a hill. The cave was documented by a Dutch missionary-archaeologist in the 1950s and has been studied since for what it says about how western Flores was formed.

Rangko Cave. From Rangko village you board a local wooden boat and cross shallow turquoise water — the same kind of boat, and the same waters, worked by the Bajo, the seafaring people who gave Labuan Bajo its name: the harbour of the Bajo. A short walk brings you to a collapsed limestone chamber holding a saltwater pool. You can swim here, under stalactites, with light falling straight into the water. The boat transfer is included, not something you negotiate at the jetty.

Melo Traditional Village. In the hills above town, Melo is a Manggarai community with a view down to the sea. Here you put on traditional dress — songke, the handwoven black cloth with geometric motifs that carry meaning about the community and the land — and take photos in the village. Your guide explains the village layout, the compang stone altar at its centre, and the Caci whip dance, the ritual duel that remains central to Manggarai identity.

Lunch. Your driver-guide stops at a good local restaurant chosen on the day — it depends on where the route has taken you, the time, and what is open. Lunch is not included by design: you order what you like and pay directly, rather than being served a fixed menu. Let your guide know about any dietary needs in the morning.

Sylvia Hill. Late afternoon, you climb to one of the best viewpoints over the bay — a 360-degree view of islands, water and the Phinisi fleet at anchor, the wooden schooner design that has carried Indonesian trade for centuries. Stay for the sunset.

Souvenir shop. A stop for handwoven Flores textiles, where you can see the difference between machine-made cloth and real songke before you buy.

Kampung Ujung Night Market. The day ends at the harbour-side market, where fishing boats unload and the town comes to eat. Walk the stalls, choose your fish, prawns or squid, and have it grilled in front of you. Dinner is not included so you can pick freely and eat at your own pace.

8:00 PM — Drop-off at your hotel, or stay at the market and walk back when you like.

Throughout the day you travel in a private air-conditioned car with your own driver-guide, with fuel, parking and mineral water covered. Seven stops, one guide, and enough time at each to actually understand it.
