Bergen in a Nutshell: See It All in One Day

Hit it all in a day and visit all the main sights, museums and viewpoints, which Bergen has to offer. Make a loop around the mountains and see the suburbs with a grill picnic and kayaks included.
Meet your guide at the hotel, who will drive you around the peninsula of Nordnes and stop at the top to admire the view of Laksevåg (Salmon Bay).

Continue to the heart of the city and visit the whole area dedicated to Edvard Grieg, the famous composer from Bergen in 1800's.

Then, head to Bryggen and start a walking tour: learn about Hanseatic League, Bryggen's importance and visit the Bergenhus fortress, where your guide will dippen you in the history of Norway pointing out the Rosenkrantz tower and Håkon Håkonson's hall.

This is a private tour so if kids are on the tour, Troll museum is recommended to visit, which is located between Bryggen and Bergenhus fortress. In this case the walking tour will be shortened for them to enjoy the museum and not be bored with too much history, although there are nice areas in the fortress, too, for them to climb and not be bored. This can be adjusted by the guests at any time.

Get back in the electric SUV and go out of the city in the north direction to hit the suburbs of Bergen. Queen Maud's viewpoint in Eidsvåg is the first photostop on our way.

Then, take a scenic road around the city mountains and hit several more photostops on your way to Lone, located in Gaupås and Ytre Arna.

Reach a mystical hidden village of Lone at the foot of the tallest mountain in the vicinity of Bergen - Gullfjellet - and get a grill lunch while trying your skills at kayaking. Again, a nice playground for the kids is just at the spot, so they can have fun, too, if bored.

Having completed the loop around the mountains, return to the city from the south. However, we will visit two main sights first before driving to the city center, which will be on our way.

Troldhaugen is a place, where Edvard Grieg's summer villa and the tomb are situated. The museum and recital hut were also built on the spot for the visitors to learn more about him and his life. Listen to the stories from your guide about Edvard's life and get a sense of how famous and important Edvard was during his life for the Kingdom of Norway in the union with Sweden.

The second major sightseeing one has to visit when in Bergen is Fantoft stave church. Take a short ride to the parking lot, from where you will stroll through the forest to reach it. Visit the church, which is built solely out of wood with no nails or screws used.

Finally, get back to town and take a cable car to the top of the tallest mount in town - mount Ulriken. Admire the view of the city and the neighborhoods of Bergen. See all the three mountains on the other side of the city as well as marvel at the Hardanger fjord and its Folgefønna glacier on a very clear day.

To crown it all, take a funicular to the top of mount Fløyen. Enjoy your coffee break and take a short hike to the lake (Skomakerdikket) to feel the taste of Norwegian hiking culture.

End the tour with a relaxing visit to the Magic Ice Bar, where you will be offered an alcoholic drink and shown the ice sculptures.
