Detailed Tour Itinerary - Manu Cultural Zone Tour (3 Days)
Day 1: Cusco (3,300 m.a.s.l.) – Cloud Forest (1,700 m.a.s.l) – Pilcopata Inn (600 m.a.s.l.)
We’ll depart from Cusco early in the morning in one of our vehicles, traveling through stunning valleys nestled between the Andes Mountains and charming rural communities. Our first stop will be at pre-Inca tombs from the Lupaca culture, followed by a visit to Paucartambo, a picturesque colonial town, where we’ll explore its fascinating museum. Along the way, we’ll enjoy lunch in the cloud forest. As we descend through this biodiverse region, we’ll have the chance to spot endemic species like the Spectacled Bear and the Cock of the Rock, Peru’s national bird known for its unique courting display. We’ll also encounter a variety of orchids, bromeliads, and ferns. Continuing our journey through this breathtaking landscape, we’ll arrive at Pilcopata Inn, where we’ll spend our first night.

Day 2: Pilcopata – Amazon Manu Lodge (450 m.a.s.l.)
After an early breakfast, we’ll visit a coca plantation and a wildlife rescue center. Next, we’ll head to Port Atalaya, located along the Alto Madre de Dios River at 500 m.a.s.l. Here, we’ll board a boat to explore the rich diversity of bird species, including herons, vultures, and cormorants, as we make our way to Amazon Manu Lodge. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch before embarking on a hike to Lake Machuwasi, where we can paddle in balsa rafts to observe birds like the primitive hoatzin, and, with some luck, spot caimans, monkeys, and capybaras. We’ll spend the night at the lodge.

Day 3: Amazon Manu Lodge – Cusco
We’ll rise early and take a boat trip to the macaw clay lick, a riverbank site where various parrot species, including the blue-headed parrot and the chestnut-fronted macaw, gather each morning to consume clay rich in minerals that aid their digestion and detoxification. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll pack up and return by boat to Port Atalaya, where our bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. We’ll enjoy lunch en route and expect to arrive in Cusco around 6:30 PM.
