Cape Town: Langa Township Walking Tour with Drumming

Explore Langa Township on a guided walking tour in Cape Town. Join a drumming session, see the Langa Murals, visit an art gallery, and taste local tea and beer.
Begin your tour at the Guga S’thebe Arts and Culture Centre, where you’ll feel the rhythm of Africa firsthand by joining an interactive, soul-stirring traditional djembe drumming session. After waking up your senses, your guide will lead you through the streets to the striking Langa Murals, where larger-than-life street art tells the poignant story of local heroes, political transformation, and community pride.

As you navigate the bustling neighborhood lanes, stop for a refreshing water or premium coffee break to meet Luya, Langa’s premier local barista. Over a freshly brewed cup, Luya will share his personal story of entrepreneurship and daily life in the township.

Next, head down Lerotholi Avenue to 16 on Lerotholi, a world-class contemporary art gallery redefining the "African Dream" right in the heart of the community. While exploring the stunning African exhibit, you have the option to partake in an intimate tea-tasting experience with Mzi, blending local herbs and storytelling.

The final chapter of your walk dives straight into authentic cultural traditions. Explore the historic single men’s hostels, gaining an unfiltered, eye-opening look at the migrant labor systems that shaped South Africa's history. Right outside, the rich aroma of local open-fire braais takes over. Here, sample a true township culinary staple: Sheep’s Head (affectionately called a "Smiley").

To complete your immersion, step inside a lively community shebeen (local pub) to participate in a traditional Umqombothi tasting ritual, sipping home-brewed African sorghum beer that has bound Xhosa celebrations together for generations.
