The club was founded in 1909, by a young Basque who studied in the UK and discovered football there. It is one of the oldest
and most respected club in Spain.
The club started strong and won his first Cup – Copa del Rey in 1909. They will have to wait the 80s to go back to their successful time, when they won two consecutive LaLiga cup, one Spanish super cup and one Copa del Rey. The 80s also marked the end of the era “Basque only” players and they started signing international players like John Aldridge who came from Liverpool.
Their last win was in 2019-20, when they won the Copa del Rey for the third time in their history. Reale Arena also known as Anoeta stadium, became their home stadium in 1993, with a capacity of 32.000 seats.
