Polonnaruwa is one of the most important archaeological sites in Sri Lanka. Most of the monuments in Polonnaruwa are closely related to either Buddhism or Hinduism.
The eastern corner of the Cultural Triangle was the Silver Capital of Polonnaruwa, which followed Anuradhapura. Though it lasted only a few decades over two centuries the colossal works of art and architecture, both Buddhist and Hindu, include stupendous image shrines. Marvel at the stone carved Buddha icons of the Galvihara.
